Tim Tebow Opens Up About His Dyslexia — and How It Shaped His Drive

by Russ Loyd

In a candid new interview, former NFL quarterback and baseball player Tim Tebow shared how living with dyslexia has influenced his mindset, work ethic, and purpose. Tebow, known for his outspoken faith and relentless determination, described dyslexia not as a limitation but as a challenge that helped him cultivate discipline and empathy — traits that shaped both his athletic career and philanthropic mission.

Tebow revealed that he was diagnosed with dyslexia as a child, calling it “a blessing in disguise.” His mother, he said, played a critical role in helping him adapt, working closely with him on reading strategies and encouraging him to approach learning differently rather than give up. He emphasized that dyslexia required him to develop grit, resilience, and creative problem-solving, qualities he believes have been essential to his success both on and off the field.

The athlete connected his experience with dyslexia to his advocacy for others who face similar learning challenges, saying he hopes to inspire young people who may feel discouraged. Tebow also underscored the importance of early support and specialized instruction, noting that understanding his learning differences gave him confidence instead of shame.

His comments come amid a growing national conversation around dyslexia — particularly as states expand early screening and structured literacy initiatives, and as public figures like Tebow lend visibility to the topic. By speaking openly about his own struggles, Tebow joins a wave of advocates reframing dyslexia not as a deficit but as a different way of processing information that, with the right tools, can lead to exceptional outcomes.

He summed it up simply: “It’s not about what you can’t do — it’s about how you learn to do it differently.”
